About the Commish

Born and raised in one of the biggest sports towns in the West, Kurt first found his passion for football shortly after learning to walk.  His dad had season tickets for the Denver Broncos for as long as he could remember, so Sundays during football season were about father-son bonding around the pigskin and cheerleaders.  The two of them would set out on a Sunday morning several times each season, drive to the local park and ride and take the bus downtown to historic Mile High Stadium.  Dressed in blue and orange, Kurt and his dad walked with foam finger in hand to their seats to watch their beloved Broncos.

Kurt attended his first Super Bowl party in 1988 when the Broncos were pummeled by the Washington Redskins.  On a cold Sunday morning in January, Kurt and his dad drove to a concert hall in downtown Denver to join hundreds of supporters in cheering on their beloved Broncos in Super Bowl XXII.  He wasn't the only 7 year-old in the crown with a blue and orange painted face, but Kurt sure was proud to show off his team spirit.  Even though the Broncos wish they could forget that day, it is a day that Kurt would not.

His love for football would only grow with time and expand onto the college field.  in 1998, Kurt traveled to Gainesville to visit his sister at the University of Florida.  A short trip from her dorm room across the grass led to The Swamp at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium where they watched a nail-biter of a game against their SEC rival, the Tennessee Volunteers.  Unlike some of the other memorable games Kurt witnessed, the blue and orange actually won this game.

In 2003, Kurt moved away from his faithful Broncos to the unfamiliar Cardinal state of Arizona.  He remembers the transition by saying "One of the hardest parts of moving to Phoenix was not being able to watch the Broncos every Sunday."  Even though he was in uncharted NFL territory, his love for the game never faltered.  Two short years later, he founded The Smartest Loser.
